Through stories of my young pony, Apollo (better known as My Friend Bob), reflections from the field, and insights from science, nature, and behaviour, I write about the relationship between horses and humans—and how both can change when we stop trying to control and start paying attention.
This isn't a place for training tips or quick fixes; it's a journal of observations, questions, quiet moments, and lessons learned between the planned sessions. Together, we'll explore partnership over performance, curiosity over certainty, and the small moments that shape meaningful relationships.

Yesterday, life felt a bit much. I am exhausted, emotionally, mentally and physically. On the way to the yard, I cried in my car. I felt terrible, compounded by a mild sense of panic about seeing my pony and doing our ‘scheduled session for today’ (which I had already pushed back from the day before). Once I’d had a good cry, I got thinking about how I was going to show up for Apollo.
